Funding Objective:

The One Heart app, when coupled with a digital stethoscope, is a portable, scalable and economical method of sharing heart sounds remotely with volunteer cardiologists around the world.

When COVID-19 appeared in early 2020, it changed how medicine is delivered.

Telemedicine became more important as health providers and their patients looked for options to reduce personal visits to clinics and hospitals.

In the fall of 2020, West Virginia University partnered with One Heart Health to be the first US hospital to test the One Heart app in a telemedicine setting. The goal of West Virginia University’s research is to determine if a pediatric cardiologist can detect heart murmurs as accurately using the One Heart app remotely, as they can listening to a child’s heart in-person in the exam room.

This study will examine the accuracy of the telemedicine approach supported by One Heart Health before releasing the app in US hospitals and around the world. We need your donation to include other US hospitals in the study and enroll 400 patients by the end of 2021. Developing this smart phone app for US hospitals supports long-distance rural medicine, remote clinics and medical homes in West Virginia and any other location with poor access. Please make a donation to support this important research and help us get this critical technology to patients faster.

Advance telemedicine solutions for ALL kids experiencing barriers to cardiac care and support our telemedicine research HERE.

Motivation:

Congenital heart defects (CHD) affect one in 120 newborns; one in ten of these children live in low resource setting with limited access to CHD care. There is no effective way of avoiding late recognition of CHD in rural setting in developing countries. Training local health professions on the One Heart app and connecting them with expert cardiologists provide a method for early diagnosis of CHD and improved health outcomes.

About the One Heart App

The One Heart App is a telemedicine system developed by One Heart Health that allows heart specialists to provide remote consultation using digital heart sounds to detect CHD.

About One Heart Health

Established in 2017, the mission of One Heart Health is to improve health outcomes through early diagnosis of heart disease in children who live in low resource areas of the world using cost-effective medical technologies. One Heart Health is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
