One Heart Health Spring Updates

Happy Spring, Everyone! Especially for those of you from Midwest of America after enduring one of the longest winters of the recent years.

We have made some great progresses and would love to share with you in this Spring update.

Technology Development:

We have completed the alpha release of the One Heart App. This is our telemedicine solution for doctors in rural or low resources setting to record and transmit heart murmurs using a digital stethoscope and their mobile phone. Our associated medical director, Dr. Matt Ambrose, a pediatric cardiologist from the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, described the One Heart App as a tool to “let a pediatric cardiologist to listen to heart murmurs from anywhere in the world”. With that vision, we launched the alpha release in March 2018 in Yunnan China at the Kunming Medical University (KMU) First Affiliated Hospital, with our partner pediatric cardiologists from the Cardiology Development.

Congenital Heart Disease Screening:

Children getting their heart checkedWe initiated the collaboration with cardiologists from the KMU in two CHD screening programs this year. In March 2018, a team of 12 KMU cardiologists completed a week-long screening program in LvChun county of Yunnan. The team screened 16,000 pre-school and school aged children for CHD. They recorded heart murmurs from all kids with echo-confirmed CHD using the One Heart app. In a separate program, the KMU, One Heart Health and the Women and Children’s Hospital at Lin Xiang County entered into a partnership to use One Heart app to screen all children between the age of zero to six years old for CHD during their physical exams. The alpha release of the One Heart app was well received by doctors in Lin Xiang county and they have already used it to refer several patients to KMU.
