One Heart Health’s Q1 Progress: Key Milestones for 2025 Achievements

One Heart Health held their quarterly board meeting just this last week to review initiatives, progress towards goals, and recenter on the targets that this nonprofit has for the future.

Review of Goals for 2025

One Heart Health made significant strides in 2024. From launching CHD screening frameworks to the release of One Heart App, all these accomplishments helped shape our targets for 2025.

Building on the momentum, in 2025, we are focused on scaling CHD screening frameworks in Bolivia and Nigeria, connecting rural doctors to specialists in La Paz and Ife-Ife. We plan to conduct a CHD screening capabilities assessment in Uganda and continue to expand our CHD screening pilot program in Ulaanbaatar across all of Mongolia. Our AI advancements will be integrated into the One Heart App in May 2025, further enhancing detection. We are also developing evergreen educational resources to support our local partners to train new team members. Furthermore, we plan to publish four research papers on our Digital Heart Sounds Study, AI/ML performance, and findings from the West Virginia University Digital Heart Sounds Study. These efforts will drive awareness, improve technology, and expand access to CHD screening worldwide. In our recent quarterly board meeting, we assessed our progress, adjusted our strategies, and recognized key early steps toward achieving our annual goals.

Improving and Developing Our Technology

Even this early in the year, our technology and development team has been working hard to enhance the One Heart App to better support doctors and nurses in screening for CHD. Building on the success of our previous updates, the new version (v1.1) released on Friday, 3/14/2025, makes significant improvements to our phonocardiogram, heart sound recording, and patient management features. Our goal is to ensure that frontline healthcare workers in low-resource settings have the most effective and reliable tool at their fingertips.

With input from the board, we are prioritizing direct feedback from the nurses and doctors who use the One Heart App. By gathering their insights, we can refine the app’s accessibility, functionality, and overall user experience. These improvements will make it easier for healthcare professionals to conduct screenings efficiently, ultimately leading to faster detection of CHD for children in need.

Version 1.2 is scheduled for release in May 2025, bringing further optimization. As we continue to develop and scale our technology, we remain committed to ensuring that the One Heart App remains a user-friendly and impactful tool in the fight against CHD.

Completed the Data Collection and Annotation Phase of the Digital Heart Sounds Study

In January 2025, the Digital Heart Sounds Study reached a major milestone with the completion of its data collection and annotation phase. Matheus, our technology director, has been leading efforts not only in app updates but also in advancing this critical research. His findings are shaping improvements in our AI model, refining its ability to detect pathologic heart murmurs with greater accuracy.

With this progress, our goal is to have publications ready before April, ensuring that our data can be presented and reviewed at the World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery in Hong Kong later this year.

Hiring Anu Gomanju as Program Manager to Expand CHD Screening Programs

As One Heart Health continues to grow, so does our team. We’re thrilled to welcome Anu Gomanju as our new Program Manager. Her expertise and passion for advancing equitable cardiovascular health make her a perfect fit for our mission.

Anu shared her inspiration for joining One Heart Health:

“I am deeply inspired by One Heart Health’s mission to develop cost-effective medical technologies for the early diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD) in low-resource settings. This mission resonates profoundly with my personal experience with CHD and my professional commitment to advancing equitable cardiovascular health. It is an honor to contribute to a team making such a meaningful impact on children and families across the globe. I am excited to bring my expertise to this vital work while embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and rethink our approaches. I look forward to collaborating and discovering innovative ways to bring healthcare closer to those in need.”

In the coming months, Anu will be working closely with nurses and doctors already using the One Heart App while expanding our telemedicine solution into new regions. We’re excited for what’s ahead!

Looking Ahead Toward Next Quarter

Next quarter, One Heart Health is focused on scaling our CHD screening programs to reach even more children in remote and underserved areas. By increasing the number of connections with rural healthcare providers and specialized cardiologists, we aim to improve early detection and ensure timely care. With ongoing efforts in Mongolia, Bolivia, Nigeria, and beyond, we’re committed to making screenings more accessible where they’re needed most.

We’re also enhancing our AI technology by fully integrating our latest machine learning models into the One Heart App once we are approved. These advancements will use the heart sound analysis algorithm, providing a CHD probability score and helping frontline healthcare workers identify potential heart defects with greater confidence. Strengthening global partnerships is key to maximizing our impact, and we’re working closely with healthcare providers, governments, and NGOs to extend our reach and improve screening infrastructure.

Beyond technology, increasing awareness and advocacy remains a priority. CHD is the most common birth defect, yet early detection is still a challenge in many parts of the world. Through education, outreach, and collaboration, we’re working to bring global attention to the importance of early screening and life-saving interventions. As we move into the next quarter, we’re excited to build on our progress and bring heart health closer to every child in need.
