What Were the Biggest App Updates in 2025?
For the One Heart Health development team, 2025 was a year of focused, behind the scenes innovation. Guided by long-term planning and informed by real-world user feedback, these updates are already transforming how healthcare workers detect congenital heart disease (CHD) in some of the world’s most underserved communities.
A Brighter, Simpler Interface
Our most visible update came through a complete UI/UX refresh. We enhanced colors, styling, and accessibility to make the app more intuitive for screeners in diverse environments. Whether it’s a rural clinic in Bolivia or a mobile screening camp in Nigeria, healthcare workers now navigate the app more easily with no training video required.
Introducing the One Heart Health Dashboard
This year, we also launched the One Heart Health Dashboard, a data-driven backend that gives real-time visibility into screening performance. For the first time, our team and partners can visualize where screenings are happening, identify trends in murmur detection, and even track how our machine learning (ML) algorithms are performing across different regions. This shift unlocks faster decision making and more targeted support for screening teams on the ground.
We are excited to share that by end of year live data metrics will also be shared on our website for donors and supporters to see.
Improving the Technology
While many 2025 updates were behind the scenes, they were critical:
- Real-time analytics & reporting: We built a system that provides live insights to our partners and internal team—helping us continuously refine the app and ML tools based on real-world usage.
- Phonocardiogram improvements: We solved a longstanding challenge with Android devices, where users experienced an audio signal spike at the start of recordings. This didn’t affect sound quality, but it disrupted the visual waveform (phonocardiogram). Fixing this improved user confidence and made the app more consistent across Android and iOS.
Scaling to Serve More Screenings
With screenings topping 1,500 per month in 2025, our infrastructure needed to keep pace. Fortunately, our app was built with scalability in mind. Powered by AWS Amplify Gen2, it runs on a serverless architecture that’s ready to grow. While we reach higher metrics of data, we are building solutions for the app will perform with 10,000+ active patients or hundreds of concurrent screeners.
As our partners expand their screening efforts, especially in Bolivia, Mongolia, and Nigeria, we anticipate a significant rise in monthly screenings in 2026. Exact projections are still being refined in collaboration with our partners’ planned studies and expansion models.
Validating Our AI: Highlights from the 2025 World Congress
In December, our development and research teams presented three peer-reviewed abstracts at the 9th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, highlighting the clinical potential of AI-powered heart sound analysis. These studies demonstrated promising results across multiple sites:
- Automated Heart-Sound Quality Evaluation achieved 95% accuracy and over 94% F1-score in identifying usable recordings, helping improve murmur detection by automatically filtering noisy input.
- A multi-institutional study using a fine-tuned Audio Spectrogram Transformer reached 82% recall and a 0.75 AUC-ROC in detecting CHD from phonocardiograms across Bolivia, Nigeria, and Mongolia.
- A West Virginia-based pilot study showed our algorithm achieved 90% precision and 78% F1-score when benchmarked against echocardiograms—the gold standard in CHD diagnosis.
These findings affirm the real-world impact of our app and ML algorithms, especially in low-resource settings where access to pediatric cardiologists is limited.
The Road Ahead: 2026 Development Priorities
Looking ahead, our top development goals for 2026 include:
- Functionality expansion for the One Heart Dashboard
- Refactoring to reduce app size and improve performance
- Bug fixes and technical debt cleanup
- Automated end-to-end testing to ensure reliability as we scale
- Continued research and validation through Digital Heart Sound Study 2.0, expanding our datasets and improving algorithm performance across diverse population
As always, our goal is not just to build great tech. It’s to save lives. Every improvement to the One Heart App brings us closer to a future where no child dies or suffers lifelong complications from a missed CHD diagnosis.
You can help make that future a reality. Your donation supports the development of life-saving technology, real-time analytics, and the screening programs that reach children in the world’s most underserved communities.
Donate now to power early diagnosis, smarter tools, and stronger health systems where they’re needed most.
