Heart Screenings – India

Partnering in India

India heart screening
One Heart Health is excited to introduce its technology to India.

Funding Objective:

In India it is estimated that more than 200,000 children per year are born with congenital heart defects, and about one-fifth are likely to have a serious defect requiring an intervention in the first year of life. Due to socio-economic constraints, a small minority of these children will be identified in a hospital setting. That is why a mobile health solution, like the One Heart app, is a welcomed tool to identify kids with heart disease early, regardless of their proximity to a hospital. Offering telemedicine services in India is a natural next step for One Heart Health, and by teaming with Children’s HeartLink, we are ensured a smooth start-up.

Children’s HeartLink (CHL) has a long track-record of responsible engagement with its partner hospitals abroad. CHL works with six hospitals in India currently, where it is committed to improving pediatric cardiac care and training through a variety of capacity-building initiatives. These are long-term relationships which have engendered mutual understanding, in addition to improved cardiac outcomes for patients. With CHL’s introduction, One Heart Health is currently in negotiations with an Indian partner hospital to expand their heart screening program with our One Heart telemedicine solution in 2022.

For this project, our partnership goal is to establish a sustainable, pilot cardiac screening program in India with the potential for replication. At least 400 children will be screened in the first two years of this pilot research project. Digital stethoscopes, mobile tablets and subscriptions to the One Heart app will be donated to the local partner, as well. The results of this pilot project will not only result in saving lives, but also inform One Heart Health’s future efforts to scale its technology into other communities throughout India and beyond. Please support One Heart Health in its effort to responsibly learn from Indian health workers and adapt its technology for an expanded global market.

Motivation:

Congenital heart defects (CHD) affect one in 120 newborns; one in ten of these children live in low resource settings with limited access to CHD care. There is no effective way of avoiding late recognition of CHD in rural setting in developing countries. Training local health professions on the One Heart app and connecting them with expert cardiologists provide a method for early diagnosis of CHD and improved health outcomes.

About the One Heart App

The One Heart App is a telemedicine system developed by One Heart Health that allows heart specialists to provide remote consultation using digital heart sounds to detect CHD.

About One Heart Health

Established in 2017, the mission of One Heart Health is to improve health outcomes through early diagnosis of heart disease in children who live in low resource areas of the world using cost-effective medical technologies. One Heart Health is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
