Meet the Lead: Dr. Ulziikhishig (Ulzii) Byambabayar leads our Mongolia partnership, advancing CHD detection in collaboration with Ulaanbaatar’s three largest maternity hospitals.

Impact

Our partnership with the three Maternity Hospitals in Ulaanbaatar expands access to CHD screening in underserved regions where early diagnosis is most critical. CHD is the most common birth defect worldwide, yet in Mongolia, early diagnosis is rare due to geographic distances, limited equipment, and a shortage of specialists. Many children are diagnosed only when symptoms become severe and treatment options are limited. One Heart Health bridges this gap by equipping local healthcare workers with mobile, AI-powered tools that make early CHD screening possible anywhere. Using a digital stethoscope and the One Heart App, providers can analyze heart sounds in real time and consult remote cardiologists, transforming access to care and creating a sustainable, scalable model for pediatric heart health.

Beyond immediate impact, our screening programs build lasting diagnostic capacity within Mongolia’s healthcare system, empowering local providers and establishing a sustainable screening network to protect thousands of children in the years ahead.

Looking Ahead

Over the next 12 months, One Heart Health and our partners in Mongolia are on track to screen over 5,000 children for CHD. Through this screening program, we expect to identify over 50 children who have an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Every child diagnosed with CHD through our programs is connected to care to receive life-saving intervention or surgery. Our screening program really does save lives. We will also train 10 additional local doctors to use the One Heart App and digital stethoscopes to screen more children and expand the sustainable screening network in Mongolia.
